Participants in my CIG Workshops the last two years have been from Canyon County Parks, National Park Service, Idaho Botanical Garden, Idaho State Parks, US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Forest Service, Idaho State Historical Society, Get Outdoors Nevada, MK Nature Center, Boise Watershed Center, and the Southern Nevada Conservancy.
This introductory course is great for college students, new staff or volunteers to learn how to give an interpretive presentation. Also a great refresher for staff with experience.

This workshop is designed for those who work in Visitor Centers, Nature Centers, Parks, Zoos, Aquariums, Botanical Gardens, and Museums.
Registration Cost: $600
The Certified Interpretive Guide Program is designed for anyone who delivers interpretive presentations to the public at sites such as parks, museums, zoos, interpretive centers, and nature centers. It combines both the theoretical foundations of the profession with practical skills in delivering quality interpretive programming to visitors.
This 32 hour course includes:
· History, definition, and principles of interpretation
· Making your programs purposeful, enjoyable, relevant, organized, and thematic
· Using tangible objects to connect audiences to intangible ideas and universal concepts in interpretive programs
· Presentation and communication skills
· Certification requirements include completion of a program outline and a ten minute presentation
· All materials including CIG workbook included

About the presenter:
James Little has extensive experience in interpretation. He has led a dozen Certified Interpretive Guide Workshops. He has served as the state-wide coordinator for interpretation in two state park systems and led projects that were recognized with national awards from the National Association for Interpretation. He created the state-wide Junior Ranger program in Idaho State Parks. He has led successful capital campaigns to build award-winning nature centers and helped to create a dozen new parks.

Successful Interpretive Guide Workshop held at the MK Nature Center in Boise, Idaho!
Another successful Interpretive Guide Workshop was held in Idaho October 21-24, 2024 led by Instructor James Little of Interpretive Consulting Services. The seven graduates included Daniel Kuhn from the National Park Service, Lily Brown and Dylon Starry from Canyon County Parks, Josh Marks from Seattle Parks, and Matthew Pavlik, Camila Flores Rodriguez, and Yaxeny Lopez Reyes from Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. The quote of the week was from Yaxeny Lopez Reyes, who gave a presentation on grebe conservation. “You have the power to change things.”
Successful Certified Interpretive Guide Workshop held with fourteen participants from three agencies at seven sites in three states!
This Certified Interpretive Guide Workshop was held at Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge in Nampa, Idaho in October 2023. Participants from the National Park Service included Ryley Brown, Maya Carlisle, Emily Childs, Angelica Gutierrez, William Heaton, Julia Last, and Tyler Riepel. Participants from Idaho State Parks included Kevin John Fossen, Jacqueline Katchmar, and John Redd. Those attending from the US Fish and Wildlife Service included Devyn Hallamore, Isabel Hawkes, Breanna Hild, and Aiesha Parmar. Congratulations to all who attended for your excellent work and presentations!

Staff achieving Certified Interpretive Guide status through the National Association for Interpretation were: Amanda Halsey from Southern Nevada Conservancy, Kensie Stallings and Melissa Tesauro from Craters of the Moon National Monument, Lenn Eckman from Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Julia Hershberger and Will Weygint from Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, Dorothy Plante from the US Forest Service, and David Hatfield from Lake Merideth National Recreation Area. Participants were from Idaho, Nevada, and Texas. All staff attending did a fabulous job in the workshop!
The next Certified Interpretive Guide Workshop offered will be held October 23-26, 2023 at Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. Registration is now available on the National Association for Interpretation website.

Staff attending were from: John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Timpanogos Cave National Monument, Celebration Park in Canyon County, City of Rocks National Reserve/Castle Rocks State Park, Idaho State Historical Society, Get Outdoors Nevada, Yosemite National Park, Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, Idaho Botanical Gardens, Craters of the Moon National Monument, and Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Participants were from Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, and California. All staff attending did a fabulous job in the workshop!
